Hello! I saw your question about the art stealing and I thought I'd try to answer it the best I can. :)

How is this possible? if anyone puts small res images that are watermarked then how can people rip of your art?
If it's small res with a watermark, people will be less likely to steal it. But most artists like to upload high res with maybe a small or no watermark. Then people just take and upload without permission.

I mean come on i have photos most of them are small res and most of them are photomarked and i never allowed direct downloads.
Good for you! :) However, just because you don't allow direct downloads doesn't mean people won't download it by right clicking or by Print screen button.

Then i think people who upload good quality hi res images are asking to have their art stolen.

I would never steal images but there are always people looking for images to steal.

Why give them a chance to steal in the first place? you would not see anyone stealing images from a art shop. Why? because they have better security.

Well people that draw instead of taking photos want to share their work in high quality since they slaved over their work. Take me, for example. As crappy as my works are, I still want to upload it in high quality for people to see.
Plus, for both illustrators and photographers, uploading things in low quality seems like they messed something up. Some users upload low res for a preview to a high quality print.

And it's not always in dA where things get stolen; it could be from a personal website used to promote their own work or etc.
Even if the picture was low quality, I've seen people steal them anyway.

From my experience, art thieves will steal anything. If we truely want to stop thefts, then we should all just stop making art. Whether on online or real life, people are experts at taking images by camera or Print screen.

There are always going to be people who can get over our efforts but atleast it would stop your avarage joe.

I have used my camera to copy art with the artists permission in the past. It was at college where i liked the persons painting and they kindly let me take a photo of it for personal use.

But i would never take art.

Just saying there are ways around anything.
Even watermarks can be photoshopped out. But atleast if we water mark and make a smaller image like a 640 by 480 then atleast they cant print it out and if they try the quality will be to poor for them to try and sell or use.

If i was to do it professionaly i would use a 1:1 macro lens and take photos of art and i would download art and invest in photoshop cs4 to remove watermarks.

But photoshop costs a packet and so does a macro lens and i am not one for stealing it believe its wrong.

Just saying to be safe people should put smaller sized images.
You can still show people your work with 640 x 480 or 600x800
So why do people upload versions which are way higher then that?
The bigger the image the easier it is to steal.
